Campbell had a relative warmup game against William Peace in their opener and performed as expected. The Camels had few issues in an 85-50 blowout win. In game two it was another victory for Campbell, this time much closer at 68-67 over Hartford.
The Camels notched their first loss of the year in a tough matchup against Duke their last time out. Campbell scored just 27 second-half points in a 67-56 loss. Cedric Henderson and Ricky Clemons led the team with 18 points apiece; Henderson also collected 11 rebounds.
Over on the Marshall side, they had to work to put away Wright State in their opener. The Herd came out of halftime tied at 43, but scored 53 points from there in a 96-88 win. Taevion Kinsey led the scoring with 22 points, four rebounds and two assists.
Marshall’s second game was much easier, and still a win. The Herd played Milligan College and had few issues in an 80-58 victory. Kinsey was again the team’s top scorer, coming up with 21 points, nine assists and six rebounds over 26 minutes of action.
The Herd are 1-5-1 ATS in the last seven home games and 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven overall. Marshall is 0-5 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win.
Meanwhile, the Camels are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games and 5-1 ATS in their last six after an ATS win. Campbell is 7-2 ATS in their last nine overall.
PICK: I’m going to try Marshall but probably staying away. We haven’t seen much from the Herd yet, but they’ve taken care of business so far. Marshall shot a solid 40.3 percent from the field with 47 rebounds and 21 team assists in their last game, but this will be a tougher matchup.
As for Campbell, they played admirably against a tough Duke team despite shooting just 36.1 percent from the floor The Campbells did win the rebound battle 34-31, so that’s good news moving forward. I expect this one will be close most of the way, and I’m taking Marshall as more of a coin-flip play.
