The Morehead State Eagles and the Marshall Thundering Herd meet Saturday in college basketball action from Cam Henderson Center. Morehead comes into this matchup at 3-3 overall. The Eagles beat Kentucky State in their last outing. As for Marshall, they’re sitting at 4-1 so far and coming off a win versus Chicago State. Morehead State began their season with a tough matchup versus Indiana and ended up losing 88-53. The Eagles bounced back with wins over CU Harrodsburg and Bellarmine before losing to West Virginia and Vanderbilt.
On Tuesday versus Kentucky State, Morehead State got back into the win column. The Eagles scored 65 points in the second half to cap off a 114-49 blowout. Branden Maughmer led the team with 20 points, and Alex Gross had 12 points with 12 boards.
Over on the Marshall side, they took something of a shocking loss to Queens NC 83-82 in their opener this year. Fortunately for the Herd they were able to bounce back with wins over Tennessee Tech, Miami-OH and Coppin State in the next trio.
In Monday’s game versus Chicago State, Marshall kept their run going. The Herd outscored the Cougars 43-31 in the second half on the way to an 82-70 win. Andrew Taylor led the way on 24 points and Taevion Kinsey added 22 points.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Marshall. The Herd have bounced back pretty well since their surprising opener loss, winning four straight games. Marshall has been scoring very well so far, with 82 or more points scored in every outing. As for Morehead State, they’ve done well against overmatched opponents but haven’t fared well at all in their three losses. Marshall should be in the driver’s seat the whole way here.
