The Old Dominion Monarchs and the Marshall Thundering Herd meet Thursday in college basketball action from Cam Henderson Center. Old Dominion is sitting at 10-15 so far this year. The Monarchs beat UAB in their last game. As for Marshall, they’re currently 9-16 and fresh off a win over UTEP. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Old Dominion has a couple of good stretches this season, but overall they’ve been highly inconsistent. The Monarchs are 3-3 in their last six games. The trio of wins in that time were over Charlotte, Marshall and UAB.
In the UAB game back on Sunday, the Monarchs held a 37-37 tie by halftime. Old Dominion was able to hit a 44-35 run in the second half for the eventual 81-72 win. Tops in scoring was Austin Trice on 20 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Over on the Marshall side, they started off the year on a solid 7-3 clip but haven’t been able to win consecutive games since. The Herd are 1-3 in their last three outings with losses to Old Dominion, Charlotte and FIU before a win over UTEP.
Matched up against UTEP on Sunday, the Herd posted a 39-38 edge in the first half and a 49-41 run in the second to secure an 88-79 victory. Goran Miladinovic led the team on a double-double with 17 points and 11 boards.
Marshall is 5-15-3 ATS in their last 23 at home and 0-6-1 ATS in their last seven Thursday games. The Herd are 5-21-3 ATS in their last 29 overall and the over is 4-1-1 in their last six overall.
Meanwhile, the Monarchs are 0-5 ATS in the last five road games and 13-29 ATS in their last 42 Thursday games. ODU is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 overall.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Marshall. The Herd’s recent record looks pretty ugly, but they’ve been competitive more often than not lately. Marshall has 159 combined points in their last two outings and they’re generally hanging around with comparable teams.
The last time these squads met up back on February 3, Old Dominion managed a 79-64 home win. I like Marshall to play better in this one and power out a revenge cover in more familiar surroundings.
