George Mason faced Stony Brook in their first game and didn’t have a lot of trouble. The Patriots eventually pulled away in a 74-52 win. In game two, George Mason turned a 43-27 halftime advantage over Penn into an 87-66 victory to keep it going.
The Patriots’ most recent matchup was on Sunday against Morgan State. George Mason allowed just 27 points in the first half and 26 more in the second during a 90-53 blowout win. Josh Oduro led the team on 22 points with six rebounds.
Over on the Maryland side, they held Quinnipiac to 25 first-half points in their opener and eventually came out ahead 83-69. In game two the Terrapins trailed George Washington 30-29 at the half but turned it on from there in a 71-64 comeback win.
Back on Saturday against Vermont, Maryland was again down at halftime, this time 36-32. The Terrapins outscored the Catamounts 36-21 from there in a 68-57 win. Both Eric Ayala and Daron Russell put up 22 points apiece with a combined seven rebounds.
The Terrapins are 5-11 ATS in their last 16 at home and 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS win. Maryland is 0-4 ATS in their last four Wednesday games.
Meanwhile, the Patriots are 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games and 5-1 ATS in their last six overall. George Mason is 4-1 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win.
PICK: I’m going to try George Mason. The Patriots have looked pretty good over their first three games—though this will certainly be their toughest test yet. George Mason should be up to the challenge, though; they’ve had a solid mix of scoring and contribution down the roster thus far.
As for Maryland, they’re coming off an ugly shooting performance against Vermont at just 36.7 percent from the floor. The Terrapins were saved by 45 rebounds and 14 team assists in that one. If Maryland gets off to another slow first half here, I can easily see George Mason getting in on a cover.
