The Old Dominion Monarchs and the Maryland Terrapins meet Sunday in college basketball action from Xfinity Center College Park. Here’s a Maryland vs Old Dominion prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Maryland vs Old Dominion pick.

Old Dominion Monarchs Betting Preview

The Monarchs opened their year on a 3-3 run with wins over Randolph College, Norfolk State and Morgan State among losses to Miami-OH, George Washington and Xavier otherwise. Since then it’s been a rough 1-6 run however, featuring losses to Drexel, Villanova, William & Mary, Richmond, George Mason and Coastal Carolina in that time. That gives ODU a 4-9 overall record this year.

In the Coastal Carolina matchup on December 20, the Monarchs entered the second half with a five-point deficit. ODU hit a 45-42 run the rest of the way but it wasn’t enough in a 76-74 loss. Leading team scorer Jordan Battle had 23 points with three boards and three assists while KC Shaw added 20 points with four rebounds. Caelum Swanton-Rodger doubled on 10 points and 10 rebounds as well.

Maryland Terrapins Betting Preview

Over on the Maryland side, they were able to beat Coppin State, Alcorn State, Marquette, Mount St. Mary’s and UNLC during a nice 5-1 opening run this year. The next six games were a 1-5 run though, as Maryland fell versus Gonzaga, Alabama, Iowa, Michigan and Virginia (with a lone win over Wagner). That would give the Terrapins a 6-6 record over their first 12 outings.

Matched up against Virginia on December 20, the Terrapins were in the locker room with a 24-19 deficit. Maryland didn’t end up getting any closer than that on a 56-53 run and took the loss 80-72 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was David Coit with 16 points and six assists. Myles Rice added 12 points with four assists and one rebound as well.

Maryland vs Old Dominion Prediction

I’ll lean toward Maryland but I’m probably staying away. The Terrapins could use a good win though, and this is a reasonable spot to get it. The Terrapins couldn’t keep pace with a good Cavaliers team in their last outing, shooting 40.7 percent from the field with 16 turnovers and an ugly 44-12 deficit on points in the paint. Maryland did well on the boards (a 37-30 advantage) however, and hit 12-of-29 (41.4 percent) from outside. That makes 72 or more points in four of the last five games, but Maryland has lost four of those against some tough competition.

As for ODU, they shot 46.4 percent from the field with a 38-28 rebounding deficit and 12 turnovers in their latest loss to Coastal Carolina in Norfolk. The Monarchs have scored well lately themselves with 71 or more points in seven of the last eight games. Old Dominion has lost six of those eight, however.
