The Purdue Boilermakers and the Maryland Terrapins meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Xfinity Center College Park. Purdue is riding a five-game win streak at 12-1 overall this year. The Boilermakers beat Eastern Kentucky in their last outing. As for Maryland, they’ve won five in a row as well and stand at 9-4 so far. The Terrapins’ latest win came versus Coppin State. Purdue Boilermakers
The Boilermakers got off to a great start this year with seven straight wins over Samford, Morehead State, Xavier, Gonzaga, Tennessee, Marquette and Texas Southern. After their lone loss to Northwestern, Purdue would then beat Iowa, Alabama, Arizona, Jacksonville and Eastern Kentucky.
In the matchup versus Eastern Kentucky on Friday, the Boilermakers took a 43-24 lead into the second half. Purdue didn’t let up from there and ended up taking the big win 80-53. Tops in scoring was Fletcher Loyer with 14 points, while Zach Edey added 13 points with seven rebounds.
Maryland Terrapins
Over on the Maryland side, they started the year a little shaky with a 4-4 run over their first eight outings. The losses in that time came versus Davidson, UAB, Villanova and Indiana. Since then the Terrapins are 5-0 though, taking out Penn State, Alcorn State, Nicholls, UCLA and Coppin State.
Matched up against Coppin State, the Terrapins didn’t have too many issues. Maryland cruised into the second half on a 38-18 advantage and scored 37 more points from there in a 75-53 win. Leading team scorer Julian Reese bagged a double-double on 18 points and 10 rebounds in the victory effort.
ANDREW’S FREE PURDUE VS MARYLAND PREDICTION
I’ll stick with Purdue here. Should be an interesting matchup, though. The Boilermakers made short work of Eastern Kentucky in their latest outing, hitting 51.6 percent from the floor with a 46-25 rebounding advantage. The outside shooting wasn’t great (28.6 percent), nor was the free-throw percentage (57.1), but there was a lot of garbage time in that game. Purdue has now scored 80 or more points in seven straight games—a 6-1 run.
As for Maryland, they’ve hit a nice 69 or more points in each of their last five games—all victories. The Terrapins had trouble scoring against tougher teams early in the season though, and I don’t think they’ll be super effective against the Boilermakers. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Maryland stay competitive for most of this one, though.
