Houston Christian Huskies

The Huskies only managed five wins over their first 17 games this year. Things have only gotten worse since then with a 1-9 run. Since their latest win, Houston Christian has fallen to McNeese State, SE Louisiana, Northwestern State, Texas A&M-CC and Texas A&M-Commerce.

In the matchup versus Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday, the Huskies trailed 50-40 going into the second half. Houston Christian didn’t get any closer on a 48-45 run and lost 98-85. Bonke Maring was the leading team scorer on 23 points with seven rebounds and three assists.

McNeese State Cowboys

Over on the Cowboys’ side, they lost just three of their first 22 games versus Western Carolina, LA Tech and SE Louisiana. McNeese has beaten Texas A&M-Commerce, Texas A&M-CC, Houston Christian, Nicholls, Incarnate Word, Lamar and Nicholls again since then.

In the rematch with Nicholls on Saturday, the Cowboys came out of the break with a 39-22 advantage. McNeese hit a 44-40 run in the second half and powered out the win 83-62 in the end. Javohn Garcia was the leading team scorer on his 17 points, five rebounds and two assists.

ANDREW’S FREE HOUSTON CHRISTIAN VS MCNEESE STATE PREDICTION

I’ll stay with McNeese State. The line’s probably too thick to mess with, though. The Cowboys are playing well these days and coming off another nice win over Nicholls. McNeese shot 51.9 percent from the field in that one with a 40-27 rebounding edge. The 14 turnovers (leading to 17 Colonels points) were a bit of a blemish, though.

McNeese State didn’t have many issues the last time these teams saw each other on February 12. The Cowboys secured a 105-54 blowout road win in that one thanks to 56.3 percent shooting (and just 25 percent from the Huskies). This one may not be so lopsided but the Cowboys should still have a significant advantage. It’s a hefty line, though.
