The New Orleans Privateers and the McNeese State Cowboys meet Sunday in college basketball action from the Legacy Center. New Orleans is 11-8 on the year so far. The Privateers beat Houston Baptist in their last outing. As for McNeese State, they’re sitting at 8-13 on the season and coming off a loss to Nicholls State. New Orleans got off to a spotty 3-7 start this year. After a brief layoff in late December, the Privateers have since won eight of nine games over Belhaven, Houston Baptist, NW State, Dillard, Nicholls, SE Louisiana, NW State and Houston Baptist in succession.

On Thursday in the rematch versus Houston Baptist, the Privateers put up 41 points in the first half and 36 more in the second on the way to a 77-66 win. Top scorer Derek St. Hilaire posted 34 points with four rebounds and three assists.

Over on the McNeese State side, they stumbled to a 3-9 start with wins over only Champion Christian, Carver and St. Francis BK. The Cowboys have been on a 5-4 run since then with losses to SE Louisiana, Texas A&M-CC (twice) and Nicholls.

Matched up against Nicholls State on Thursday, the Cowboys were down by five heading into halftime. McNeese didn’t get any closer in an 81-71 loss. Kellon Taylor was the top scorer with 13 points, and Harwin Francois added 12 points as well.

The Cowboys are 1-5 ATS in their last six games at home and 6-13-1 ATS in their last 20 after an ATS loss. The over is 5-2 in McNeese’s last seven overall.
Meanwhile, the Privateers are 1-5 ATS in their last six road games and 1-3-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS win. New Orleans is 3-0-1 ATS in the last four overall.

PICK: I’m going to stick with New Orleans. The Privateers are looking good over this 8-1 run. They’ve hit 77 or more points in all nine games and have held opponents to 66 points or fewer in five of them. The last time these teams met up, McNeese pulled off a 92-82 victory in double-overtime (New Orleans’ only blemish in the last nine games). I like this rematch to be a high-scoring affair as well, with the Privateers ultimately powering out a revenge cover/win. Should be a fun one to watch.
