Alabama kicked off the year with four wins before losing in an upset 72-68 to Iona. Since then the Tide have returned to form. The last four games have been victories over Drake, Miami-FL, Gonzaga and Houston.
Back on Saturday versus Houston, the Tide scored 44 points in the first half and 39 more in the second to eke out an 83-82 thriller victory. Alabama’s Juwan Gary led the team on 19 points, and Jaden Shackelford added 18 points with eight boards.
Over on the Memphis side, their year started with wins over Tennessee Tech, NC Central, Saint Louis, Western KY and Virginia Tech. Since then it’s been losses to Iowa State, Georgia, Ole Miss and Murray State in succession.
In the Friday matchup versus Murray State, Memphis jumped out to a 40-26 halftime lead. The Tigers were outscored 48-32 from there in a 74-72 defeat. Tyler Harris topped the team on 15 points with four assists.
Memphis is 0-4 ATS in their last four overall and 4-0 ATS in the last four as an underdog. The over is 5-2 in the Tigers’ last seven at home.Â
Meanwhile, the Tide are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 Tuesday games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven as a road favorite. The over is 4-0 in Alabama’s last four overall.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Alabama. The Tide shot a nice 52 percent from the field in the Houston game, which helped pad the scoreboard as Alabama was out-rebounded 43-34 (and a lopsided 21-7 offensive). That said, Alabama is on a great run over their last four games with 80 or more points in each.Â
As for Memphis, they had a bad second half in their last game and the team is amid a rough patch in the season. A bounce back is going to be difficult in the Tigers’ next two outings—they’ve got Tennessee looming on Saturday as well.
