Austin Peay Governors
The Governors started off on a shaky run, winning just three of their first nine games this year. The losses in that time came versus George Mason, UTEP, Tarleton State, Appalachian State, Morehead State and Tennessee State. Since then it’s been a 4-1 run for the Governors though, with their latest win coming versus Ohio.
Matched up against Ohio last Friday, the Governors were up by four points at the break. Austin Peay kept the pace in the second half and pulled off the win 71-67. Topping the team scoring was DeMarcus Sharp with 21 points, four rebounds and four assists in 39 minutes of action.
Memphis Tigers
Over on the Memphis side, they got off to a great 5-0 start this year before eventually taking consecutive losses to Villanova and Ole Miss. The Tigers have since won five straight games versus VCU, Texas A&M, Clemson, Virginia and Vanderbilt to move to 10-2 on the year.
In the Vanderbilt game last Saturday, the Tigers played a close one. Memphis was down 36-35 going into the second half then hit a 42-39 run from there in a 77-75 victory. Leading the way was David Jones with 28 points and nine boards, while Jahvon Quinerly added 13 points and four assists.
ANDREW’S FREE AUSTIN PEAY VS MEMPHIS PREDICTION
I might take a stab on Austin Peay. The Governors have been playing a lot better lately, and they’re coming off a decent showing versus Ohio. In that one Austin Peay shot 48.1 percent from the field with just seven turnovers. The 15-of-24 (62.5 percent) from the line and the 37-34 rebounding deficit didn’t help matters, though. Still, the Governors have hit 70 or more points in three of their last five games and can probably eke out a cover here if they’re shooting well. Memphis is coming off a close game versus a struggling Vanderbilt team, so anything’s possible.
