The Wichita State Shockers and the Memphis Tigers meet Friday in AAC Tournament college basketball action from Dickies Arena. Here’s a Memphis vs Wichita State prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Memphis vs Wichita State pick.

Wichita State Shockers Betting Preview

The Shockers have had some pretty significant highs and lows so far this year. That said, Wichita State has managed to keep their heads well above the .500 mark overall. The Shockers won 10 of their first 13 games, falling to only Florida, DePaul and Kansas City. A rough 1-7 run came next though, with a win over Charlotte among losses to Temple, USF, UTSA, East Carolina, Memphis, Tulsa and North Texas. Wins over Charlotte, South Florida, UTSA, Memphis, FAU and Tulane followed, then a 2-3 run with wins over Rice and USF. The losses in that time were versus UAB, North Texas and Tulsa, giving the Shockers an overall run of 19-13 through 32 games this season so far.

On Thursday versus South Florida in a tournament matchup, the Shockers were up by 10 points at halftime. Wichita State slowed a bit from there on a 40-35 run but took the win in the end 73-68. Corey Washington led the way with his 21 points and nine rebounds, while Bijan Cortes added 20 points with seven assists and three rebounds.

Memphis Tigers Betting Preview

Over on the Memphis side, they’ve been a highly consistent team this year with only a handful of scattered losses on the card. The Tigers went 9-3 over their first dozen outings, losing to only Auburn, Arkansas State and Mississippi State in that time. After wins over Ole Miss, FAU, North Texas and East Carolina, Memphis took another loss to Temple. Since then the Tigers have only lost once to Wichita State. Otherwise it’s been victories over Charlotte, Wichita State, UAB, Tulane, Rice, Tulsa, Temple, South Florida, FAU, Rice, UAB, UTSA and South Florida. In total that gives the Tigers a nice 26-5 run through 31 games so far.

In the South Florida matchup last Friday, the Tigers kicked things off with a 35-35 tie in the first half. Memphis caught fire after that on a 49-33 run and took the eventual win 84-68. Tops in scoring were Dain Dainja (six rebounds) and PJ Haggerty (eight rebounds), each with 20 points. Tyrese Hunter added 16 points with seven assists and three steals, while both Moussa Cisse and PJ Carter chipped in six points apiece off the bench.

Memphis vs Wichita State Prediction

I’ll lean toward Memphis. The Tigers have been off the court for a week though, so they’ll need a good start to get things moving. That said, Memphis played well in their last outing versus USF, with 52.5 percent shooting and a 43-30 rebounding edge. There’s still plenty of stuff to clean up though, including the 12-of-20 (60 percent) from the line and the 14 turnovers for 20 Bulls points. That said, Memphis is scoring very well this year, and they’ve hit 75 or more points in each installment of this current five-game win streak.

These teams have met twice this year, with the home team taking the win each time. Memphis got it 61-53 on January 23 and Wichita State returned the favor 84-79 in OT on February 16. In that latest matchup, the Tigers shot a miserable 36 percent from the field with a 54-45 rebounding deficit and 10 turnovers for 11 Shockers points. Memphis managed to hold the Shockers to just 40 percent shooting on the other side and came up with 22 team assists, but it wasn’t enough to power out the win following a 13-8 disadvantage in the extra period. I like Memphis to get some revenge this time, but they’ve obviously got to do a better job offensively.
