The UNC Greensboro Spartans and the Mercer Bears meet Saturday in college basketball action from Hawkins Arena.
UNC Greensboro enters this one at 14-6 so far. The Spartans are 8-1 in their last nine games and coming off a win over Furman. As for Mercer, they’re 12-7 this year. The Bears beat Samford in their last two outings. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
UNC Greensboro opened up the year at 6-5 through their first 11 games. The Spartans hit a win streak versus Samford, the Citadel, Chattanooga, Mercer and VMI after that. In their last pair UNC Greensboro has a loss and a win over Furman.
In the 64-58 win over Furman on Wednesday, UNC Greensboro’s Isaiah Miller put up 22 points with eight rebounds and three assists, and Keyshaun Langley had 11 points with one rebound and one assist in 22 minutes on the floor.
Over on the Mercer side, their year began at 7-1 with a lone loss to Georgia State. The Bears then lost three straight, won three straight, and lost three straight versus UNC Greensboro, Wofford and East Tennessee State. Mercer has taken out Samford in both their last two games.
In the 77-70 OT win over Samford on Wednesday, Mercer’s Neftali Alvarez put up 23 points with six rebounds and four assists. Both Leon Ayers and Ross Cummings added 13 points apiece, combining for three assists and six rebounds for the Bears as well.
Mercer is 7-15 ATS in their last 22 Saturday games and 0-5 ATS in their last five home games. The Bears are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 overall and the under is 13-5 in their last 18 home games.
Meanwhile, the Spartans are 6-1 ATS in their last seven road games and 6-1 ATS in their last seven after a straight-up win. UNCG is 8-1 ATS in the last nine overall and 6-1 ATS in the last seven after an ATS win.
PICK: I’m sticking with UNC Greensboro. The last time these teams met up was an 81-68 Spartans win back on January 27. UNCG was up 41-33 at the half and kept it going in the second. Mercer has notched a few nice games in their last several outings, but they’ve spun their wheels in certain matchups. This one may be closer, but I still like UNC Greensboro on the cover.
