The Sacred Heart Pioneers and the Merrimack Warriors meet Saturday in Northeast Conference Tournament college basketball action from Hammel Court. Sacred Heart is 15-13 overall this year. The Pioneers beat Wagner in tournament activity on Wednesday. As for Merrimack, they’re 16-16 overall and fresh off a Wednesday tourney win over LIU. Sacred Heart Pioneers
Sacred Heart managed an 11-13 run over their first 24 games this year. The Pioneers closed out the regular season on a 4-3 stretch, beating Wagner, Central CT State, Fairleigh Dickinson and Central CT State again in that time.
On Wednesday in the tournament matchup versus Wagner, Sacred Heart hit a 25-20 run in the first half. The Pioneers finished off with a 42-35 advantage and won it 67-55. Both Tanner Thomas and Nico Galette posted a team-high 14 points each.
Merrimack Warriors
Over on the Merrimack side, they were 8-16 after 24 games this season. The Warriors closed out with wins over St. Francis PA (twice), Stonehill, Hartford, Sacred Heart, Central CT State and LIU in their last seven outings.
Matched up against LIU on Wednesday in the tournament, Merrimack ended the first half on a 54-33 advantage. The Warriors cruised from there with 37 more points and won 91-76. Ziggy Reid led the way on 33 points and four rebounds.

I’ll probably stick with Merrimack here. The Warriors are rolling right along these days, and they’re sitting pretty on a nine-game win streak. Merrimack has scored 67 or more points in six straight games as well. Sacred Heart won the first meeting between these teams, a 59-55 affair on January 5 at Hammel Court. The Warriors struck back with a 67-55 victory at William H. Pitt Center on February 18 however, so we should have a pretty competitive matchup here regardless. All things considered I like Merrimack on the cover, but it’ll be a fun one to check out.
