The Stonehill Skyhawks and the Merrimack Warriors meet Thursday in college basketball action from Hammel Court. Stonehill sits at 12-14 so far. The Skyhawks beat St. Francis BK in their last game. As for Merrimack, they’re 9-16 this year following a win over St. Francis PA. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Stonehill Skyhawks

Stonehill kicked off their year with a rough 5-11 run through their first 16 games. The Skyhawks have gotten better since then on a 7-3 run, beating Wagner, Central CT State, LIU, FDU, Sacred Heart, St. Francis PA and St. Francis BK in that time.

On Saturday versus St. Francis BK, the Skyhawks were up 25-18 in the locker room. Stonehill posted 40 more second-half points and ended up winning 65-59. Both Max Zegarowski and Andrew Sims scored 17 points apiece.

Merrimack Warriors

Over on the Merrimack side, they had a tough start to the season as well with a 3-13 mark through 16 outings. The Warriors are 6-3 in their last nine however, with losses to Sacred Heart, Wagner and Fairleigh Dickinson.

Back on Saturday in the St. Francis PA game, the Warriors managed a 37-32 edge going into halftime. The Warriors scored another 33 points from there in a 70-66 victory. Ziggy Reid led the way on 22 points with four rebounds.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’m going to try Stonehill in this one. The Skyhawks are looking much improved over the last 10 games, and they’ve scored 65 or more points in five of their last six outings. Stonehill certainly has motivation in this one; the last time these teams met up back on January 14, Merrimack posted a 59-47 victory at Merkert Gymnasium. The Skyhawks stumbled in the second half with just 18 points in that loss, so they’ll need to play a complete game in the rematch. If Stonehill gets off to a good start, I think they’ll be okay on a cover (and maybe a win). Should be a fun matchup regardless.

Andrew's Free Pick: Stonehill Skyhawks +4
