The Lafayette Leopards and the Miami Hurricanes meet Monday in college basketball action from BankUnited Center. Lafayette is coming off a 10-20 record last year, landing near the bottom of the Patriot League standings. As for Miami, they went 26-11 a season ago and made it all the way to the Elite Eight. Lafayette had a rough go of things in 2021-22. The Leopards managed a sketchy 10-20 record overall and a 7-11 mark in Patriot League games. That result left Lafayette just two spots out of the basement in the conference standings, ahead of only Bucknell and American.

Lafayette opened the season on a rough run, winning just three of their first 14 games. The Leopards couldn’t win more than two consecutive games all year, and ultimately fell to Bucknell 82-81 in overtime in their first game of the conference tourney.

Over on the Miami side, they had a considerably more successful season last year. The Hurricanes went 26-11 overall and 14-6 in a tough ACC, finishing in fourth place behind Duke, North Carolina and Notre Dame.

Miami stayed consistent for most of the 2021-22 season, losing consecutive games just once all year. (to Notre Dame and Virginia). After a loss to Duke in the ACC Tournament, the Hurricanes made it to the Elite Eight in the national tourney where they lost to Kansas 76-50.

Lafayette is 9-3 ATS in their last 12 Monday games and 1-4 ATS in their last five overall. Miami is 4-1 ATS in their last five overall and 4-1 ATS in their last five Monday games.

PICK: I’m going to stay with Miami. Not much was expected of the Hurricanes last year, but the team rallied together and made a great run in the national tournament. Miami has a few key pieces from last year that need replaced, specifically Charlie Moore (12.4 PPG), Kam McGusty (17.8 PPG) and Sam Waardenburg (8.5 PPG). That said, Isaiah Wong and Jordan Miller should both take a step forward this season and help lead Miami to another successful campaign. I like a big debut here.
