The Evansville Purple Aces and Miami (OH) Redhawks meet Monday in college basketball action at the Millett Hall. The Evansville Purple Aces are coming off a 6-win season. The Miami (OH) Redhawks are coming off a 14-win season.

The Evansville Purple Aces have won single-digit games in each of the last 3 years. Blaise Beauchamp returns after averaging 8 points and 1.6 rebounds, while Antoine Smith Jr. averaged 4.8 points and 0.5 assists. Gage Bobe played in more than 300 minutes last season, and Preston Phillips averaged 4 rebounds. The Evansville Purple Aces return just 4 players who saw the court last season, which may not be a bad thing given they won just 6 games. However, it’s going to be nearly a brand-new roster, and that can’t make fans feel good given the constant losing these last 4 years.

The Miami (OH) Redhawks enter the Travis Steele era, as he comes over from Xavier. Mekhi Lairy returns after averaging 13.6 points and 2.9 rebounds, while Kamari Williams averaged 6 points and 3.3 rebounds. Curtis Harrison IV played in nearly 200 minutes last season and Javin Etzler played in 78 minutes last season. The Miami (OH) Redhawks are another team that has a new roster as 9 different players either graduated or transferred. Speaking of transfers, Julian Lewis comes over from William & Mary, Anderson Mirambeaux leaves Cleveland State and Morgan Safford bounced from Wofford. Miami (OH) also lands a 3-star recruit in Ryan Mabrey, who had offers from Valparaiso and Washington.

The Purple Aces are 6-14 ATS in their last 20 road games. The RedHawks are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 home games and 6-20 ATS in their last 26 games overall. The over is 4-1 in Purple Aces last 5 overall. The over is 7-2 in RedHawks last 9 overall. The favorite is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings.

This should be an interesting battle given that both teams are missing so much production from a year ago. Nobody knows what to expect from either side. With that said, the Miami-Ohio RedHawks are the more talented team and being at home doesn’t hurt much. I’ll give the RedHawks the benefit of the doubt and lay the chalk with them at home.
