Michigan State vs Maryland Pick – Basketball Predictions & Odds 2/7/23

The Maryland Terrapins and the Michigan State Spartans meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Breslin Center. Maryland stands at 16-7 so far this year. The Terrapins beat Minnesota in their last game. As for Michigan State, they’re currently 14-9 on the season after a loss to Rutgers on Saturday. Maryland Terrapins 

Maryland got through their first 16 games with losses to Tennessee, Wisconsin, UCLA, Michigan and Rutgers. Since then the Terrapins are 5-2 with wins over Michigan, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Indiana and Minnesota. 

In the Minnesota matchup on Saturday, the Terrapins jumped out to a 41-21 lead by halftime. Maryland continued on a 40-25 second-half run and won the game 81-46. Julian Reese topped the team with 16 points and five rebounds. 

Michigan State Spartans 

Over on the Michigan State side, they lost to only Gonzaga, Alabama, Notre Dame and Northwestern in their first 16 outings. The Spartans are just 2-5 since then with losses to Illinois, Purdue, Indiana, Purdue again and Rutgers, however. 

Matched up against Rutgers on Saturday, the Spartans were up 25-19 going into the second half. Michigan State was outscored 42-30 from there and lost 61-55. Tyson Walker led the team on 12 points and four rebounds.

I’m going to take a stab on Maryland here. The Terrapins are on a nice four-game win streak right now and coming off a dominant win over Minnesota. Maryland has scored 73 or more points in three of the last four outings as well. As for Michigan State, they’ve been on a choppy run and have failed to pass 70 points in nine straight outings. The Spartans are going to need a big offensive push to keep pace here, and I don’t think they’ve got the gas to cover/win if Maryland is playing well.
