Michigan vs Southern Utah 12/18/21 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Southern Utah Thunderbirds and the Michigan Wolverines meet Saturday in college basketball action from Crisler Center. Southern Utah is sitting at 7-3 overall. The Thunderbirds are coming off a win over St. Katherine. As for Michigan, they’re 6-4 so far and fresh off a loss to Minnesota. Southern Utah stumbled at 1-3 to start the season, losing to Dixie State, Saint Mary’s and California. The Thunderbirds have since beaten Yale, Bowling Green, Eastern WA, Idaho, Utah Valley and St. Katherine in succession. 

Last weekend against St. Katherine, Southern Utah posted 47 points in the first half and 53 more from there in a 100-61 win. John Knight led the team on 19 points with five assists, and Tevian Jones added 15 points with seven boards. 

Over on the Michigan side, they hit a 4-2 clip to start the season, falling to Seton Hall and Arizona along the way. The Wolverines have gone 2-2 since, beating San Diego State and Nebraska alongside losses to North Carolina and Minnesota. 

Matched up against Minnesota last Saturday, the Wolverines had a four-point halftime lead erased with a 43-29 deficit in the second half. The result was a 75-65 loss. Michigan’s top scorer was Hunter Dickinson on 19 points and 10 rebounds. 

Michigan is 1-4 ATS in their last five at home and 23-8-1 ATS in their last 32 after a straight-up loss. The over is 4-1 in the Wolverines’ last five Saturday games. 

Meanwhile, the Thunderbirds are 8-1 ATS in their last nine Saturday games and the over is 23-8 in their last 31 overall. The over is 11-4 in Southern Utah’s last 15 Saturday games. 

PICK: I’m going to try Southern Utah. The Thunderbirds have certainly had their ups and downs so far this year, but they’ve looked better lately. Southern Utah has hit 81 or more points in five of their last six games and the offense has found a good rhythm. 

As for Michigan, their losses have come by simply playing great teams. The Wolverines get bogged down on the scoreboard at times however, and that’s really hurt them. I like Michigan to have a good bounce-back game here, but I think Southern Utah can hang around for the cover.
