The Winthrop Eagles and the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders meet in college basketball action from the Murphy Athletic Center on Tuesday night.

The Winthrop Eagles come into this game on the heels of an 88-85 overtime win over Mercer in their last game. D.J. Burns Jr. leads the Eagles in scoring and rebounding with 23 PPG and 7 RPG while Cory Hightower has 15 PPG and 5 RPG this season. Russell Jones Jr. has 12 PPG and 3 APG and Patrick Good has 11 PPG to make up the group of double-digit scorers for Winthrop through two games this season. Drew Buggs also has a team-high 6 APG as well on the year so far. As a team, Winthrop is averaging 99 PPG on 55.4% shooting from the field, 48.2% from three and 64.3% from the foul line while allowing 81.5 PPG on 47.3% shooting from the field and 41.5% from three this season.

The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders will be looking to add to a 71-51 win over Bethune-Cookman in their last matchup. Josh Jefferson has a team-high 13.5 PPG while Isaiah Turner has chipped in 11.5 PPG and Eli Lawrence has 10 PPG to make up the trio of double-digit scorers for the Blue Raiders through their first two games of the year while Teafale Lenard has a team-high 6.5 RPG with 7 PPG and Donovan Sims has dished out a team-high 3.5 APG this season. As a team, Middle Tennessee is averaging 84.5 PPG on 52.9% shooting from the field, 33.3% from three and 72.7% from the foul line while allowing 55 PPG on 44.1% shooting from the field and 33.3% from three this season.

Winthrop is 16-5 ATS in their last 21 games against a team with a winning record and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 road games while the under is 6-1-1 in their last 8 games overall. Middle Tennessee is 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 home games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following a win while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall.

I get the case that could be made either way here, but I’m looking at the over in this one. Middle Tennessee has to prove the scoring chops a bit more after putting just 71 up on Bethune-Cookman, but this is a deep Middle Tennessee team and Winthrop showed us what they’re made of in that track meet against Mercer. I expect another track meet here and expect this one to fly over the total.
