The Furman Paladins and the Mississippi State Bulldogs meet Friday in college basketball action from Humphrey Coliseum. Furman sits at 7-4 on the season. The Paladins lost to North Carolina in their last game. As for Mississippi State, they’re 7-3 this year and coming off a win over Georgia State. Furman started out the year on a 3-1 clip with a loss to Belmont as their only blemish. Since then the Paladins have gone 4-3, losing to Navy, Winthrop and North Carolina while otherwise taking out USC Upstate, High Point, Charleston and App State in that stretch.

Back on Tuesday versus North Carolina, the Paladins kept pace in the first half with a 39-39 tie. Furman was outscored 35-22 from there in a 74-61 loss, however. Leading scorer Alex Hunter posted 21 points with three assists and two rebounds.

Over on the Mississippi State side, they got off to a 4-0 start before a loss to Louisville. The Bulldogs then beat Richmond and Lamar, lost to Minnesota and Colorado State, then took out Georgia State in their Tuesday game.

Matched up against Georgia State in their last outing, the Bulldogs didn’t have much trouble. Mississippi State was up 43-22 at halftime and cruised to the 79-50 win. Iverson Molinar was the team’s top scorer on 18 points and four assists.

The Bulldogs are 1-4-1 ATS in their last six Friday games and 1-7 ATS in their last eight after an ATS win. The under is 9-4 in Mississippi State’s last 13 as a favorite.

Meanwhile, the Paladins are 0-6-1 ATS in their lasts seven after an ATS loss and 3-13-1 ATS in their last 17 road games.Furman is 6-18-2 ATS in their last 26 overall.

PICK: I’m going with Mississippi State here. The Bulldogs put up a dominant effort against Georgia State in their last game, with 54.5 percent shooting from the field, 41 rebounds and 21 team assists. Mississippi State has scored well lately, with 75 or more points in four of their last five.

As for the Paladins, they had a nice first half against a good Tar Heels team in their last outing but ultimately couldn’t keep up. Still, Furman has been scoring well themselves this season and I like them to put up a good fight in this one—at least initially. Should be an interesting matchup, but I like Mississippi State to ultimately bag the cover.
