LSU Tigers
LSU went a nice 12-1 run through their first 13 games, but since then it’s been a rough 10-game losing streak. The defeats in that time have come to Kentucky, Texas A&M, Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas Tech, Missouri and Alabama.
On Saturday versus Alabama, the Tigers were down 44-37 by halftime. LSU didn’t end up getting any closer on a 35-32 second half and lost 79-69. Leading scorer Derek Fountain posted 26 points with seven rebounds.
Mississippi State Bulldogs
Over on the Mississippi State side, they kicked off the season on a pretty solid 12-4 run overall. The Bulldogs have since gone 3-4 however, falling to Auburn, Tennessee, Florida and Alabama before wins over TCU, South Carolina and Missouri.
In the Missouri game on Saturday, Mississippi State was up 33-27 by halftime. The Bulldogs posted a 30-25 second-half run and won it 63-52. Tolu Smith led the team on 25 points with 12 rebounds and two assists.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll probably stay with Mississippi State here. The Bulldogs are on a three-game win streak right now, and they’ve allowed just 103 combined points in their last two outings. Mississippi State has been getting it done with defense for most of the season; they’ve been at 66 points or fewer in nine of their last 10 games. As for LSU, they’ve had some rough luck against some very talented teams during this losing streak. It’s going to be difficult for the Tigers to find scoring opportunities in this one however, and I don’t think they’ll be able to keep the cover pace.
