The Alabama State Hornets and the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils meet Monday in college basketball action from Harrison HPER Complex. Here’s a Mississippi Valley State vs Alabama State prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Mississippi Valley State vs Alabama State pick.

Alabama State Hornets Betting Preview

The Hornets have had a couple of pretty good runs in the record column so far this year, but overall it’s been a struggle. Alabama State lost their first two games to UNLV and LSU before getting wins over Virginia Lynchburg, Omaha, and Lamar in the next three. A 1-7 run came next with a lone win over TN-Martin amid losses to Akron, Cincinnati, SMU, Southern Miss, Norfolk State, Delaware State, and Missouri. The Hornets would beat MS Valley State, AR-Pine Bluff, Alabama A&M, and Prairie View with losses to Jackson State and Alcorn State in the next six. A 2-3 run ensued with wins over Florida A&M and Southern amid losses to Texas Southern, Bethune-Cookman, and Grambling, giving the Hornets a 10-14 run through the first 24 games.

In their Saturday matchup with Arkansas-Pine Bluff, the Hornets were down by three points heading into the second half. Alabama State hit a 49-34 run the rest of the way however, pulling off the comeback win 75-63 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was TJ Madlock with 20 points and eight rebounds with one assist and one steal. Micah Simpson was top off the bench with 13 points and two rebounds, while CJ Hines added 12 points with six rebounds and five assists alongside four steals in 34 minutes of work on the floor.

Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils Betting Preview

Over on the Mississippi Valley State side, it’s been a rough year so far with the wins coming very few and far between. The Delta Devils won just two of their first nine games over Mississippi University for Women and Oakwood. After a losing streak versus Liberty, North Texas, Tulsa, LSU, Alabama State, Alabama A&M, Prairie View, Texas Southern, Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, Grambling, and Southern, Mississippi Valley State finally got another win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The next two games were both losses to Jackson State and Alcorn State though, giving the Devils a rough 3-21 result through their first 24 outings.

Matched up against Alabama A&M on Saturday, the Delta Devils were blitzed in the first half 32-18. MS Valley State got better from there on a 52-50 advantage but still lost 82-70. Jair Horton led the team in scoring with his 15 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Antonio Sisk added 12 points, and Greg Moore had 14 points with one assist off the bench.

Mississippi Valley State vs Alabama State Prediction

I’ll lean toward Alabama State but I’m not touching it. There’s not a lot to get excited about here if you’re not a fan of either team, and the line’s probably too thick to mess with anyway. On Saturday the Hornets didn’t have the greatest game but they were able to pull off the win thanks to a good second half. Alabama State shot just 36.4 percent from the field and 18-of-28 (64.3 percent) from the line in that one, but held the Lions to only 37.7 percent shooting on the other side. Alabama State also scored 21 points off 17 turnovers, which certainly helped matters.

These teams last saw each other back on January 4 in a home game for the Hornets. Alabama State won that one 84-55 thanks to a nice 50 percent shooting from the floor and only eight turnovers. The Hornets gave up just 35.1 percent shooting on the other side and scored 20 points off 16 Delta Devils turnovers in a pretty sloppy outing for MS Valley State. Alabama State won’t be able to rely on so many mistakes in the road rematch, but I think they’re still in a position to cover. With the hefty line though, I’m avoiding this one in reality.
