The George Washington Colonials and the Missouri State Bears meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Community School of Naples. George Washington is sitting at 2-5 on the year. The Colonials fell to Kent in their last game on Tuesday. As for Missouri State, they’re 3-2 and lost to East Tennessee State in their Tuesday matchup. George Washington put up a 75-72 win over Saint Francis PA in their first game of the year, then hit a losing streak to Maryland, UC San Diego, Cal State Fullerton and UMass Lowell. The Colonials managed a win over Wright State in game six.
On Tuesday versus Kent State, the Colonials fell behind 33-26 at halftime. George Washington got better from there on 43 second-half points but still lost 77-69. James Bishop led the team on 19 points, five assists and one rebound.
Over on the Missouri State side, they took a loss to Southeast Missouri State in their first game 99-94. The Bears rattled off three straight wins after that, though. The victories came versus Alabama State, Sam Houston and Long Beach State.
The Bears’ luck ran out in game five against East Tennessee State on Tuesday. Missouri State had a two-point deficit at the break and never made it up in a 77-76 defeat. Isiaih Mosley put up 18 points and three rebounds to lead the Bears in the loss.
PICK: I’m going to try Missouri State in this one. The Bears managed a nice offensive clip on Tuesday despite the loss. Missouri State hit 56 percent of their shots and nailed 13-of-21 (61.9 percent) from 3-point range. The Bears notched 16 team assists but were pushed around with a 27-21 rebounding deficit.
As for George Washington, they had a bad first half against Kent State but got much better from there. The Colonials were just 6-of-20 (30 percent) from beyond the arc and had a tepid 24 rebounds, though. This should be a competitive matchup and an interesting one to check out.
