Hofstra got off to a 2-4 start this year with wins over Maryland and Molloy. Since then the Pride are 5-1, with a loss to Stony Brook mixed into wins over Detroit, Princeton, Bucknell, John Jay and Arkansas.
In the Arkansas matchup on Saturday, the Pride scored 40 points in the first half and 49 more from there in an 89-81 victory. Hofstra’s Aaron Estrada posted 22 points with 10 rebounds and eight assists; Jalen Ray added 22 points in 31 minutes of work.
Over on the Monmouth side, they opened the year with a 7-1 run that featured only an opener loss to Charlotte. The Hawks are 3-1 since then, losing to St. John’s before wins versus Pitt, Yale and Colgate.
Matched up against Colgate back on Sunday, the Hawks posted a 41-30 edge in the second half during a 77-66 win. George Papas led the way on 30 points, five assists and four rebounds, while Walker Miller added 15 points and eight boards.
The Hawks are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 Wednesday games and 12-0 ATS in their last 12 overall. Monmouth is 16-5-1 ATS in their last 22 after an ATS win.
Meanwhile, the Pride are 4-1 ATS in their last five overall and 34-16-1 ATS in their last 51 road games. The over is 5-1 in Hofstra’s last six overall.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Monmouth. The Hawks have been putting up points pretty well over their last five games, with 69 or more in four of those. Monmouth closed out well against Colgate in their last game, and got some pretty nice contributions from key role-players.
As for the Pride, they’ve hit 81 or more points in six of their last seven games. This one should be another high-scoring affair, so Monmouth is going to have to step on the gas offensively. If the Hawks can keep it up the whole game I think they’ll be fine on the cover. Should be a great matchup regardless, though.
