The Northeastern Huskies and the Monmouth Hawks meet Monday in college basketball action from Multipurpose Activity Center. Here’s a Monmouth vs Northeastern prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Monmouth vs Northeastern pick.

Northeastern Huskies Betting Preview

Northeastern has had quite the choppy year so far, but they’ve been able to keep their heads above the .500 mark. The Huskies opened the season on a nice 8-3 run over their first 11 outings, with wins over Boston U, Harvard, Central Connecticut, Florida International, Florida Gulf Coast, La Salle, Colgate, and Old Dominion. A 5-9 run came next with wins over Delaware, Stony Brook, Drexel, Hampton, and Hofstra among losses to UMass, Northwestern, Hofstra, Towson, UNC Wilmington, Charleston, Towson, Elon, and Hampton. Since then it’s been wins over Campbell and Stony Brook ahead of a loss to Charleston. That gives the Huskies a 15-13 overall record so far this season through 28 games.

In the Charleston matchup on Thursday, the Huskies came out of the break with a 39-33 deficit. Northeastern didn’t end up getting closer on a 34-29 run from there and took the loss 73-62. Leading the team in the losing effort was Harold Woods with 19 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Rashad King added 15 points with five rebounds and two steals. JB Frankel had 11 points, seven boards, two assists and one steal in 38 minutes, and LA Pratt chipped in with 10 points, four assists, and one rebound in his 33 minutes of action.

Monmouth Hawks Betting Preview

Over on the Hawks’ side, they were looking pretty rough in late January but since then they’ve gotten better in the win column. Monmouth opened with losses to Michigan State, Temple, Northern Illinois, Rutgers, Wichita State, Youngstown State, Stephen F. Austin, and Presbyterian in their first eight games. A 5-5 run came next with wins over Seton Hall, Fairfield, Stony Brook, Charleston, and North Carolina A&T among losses to Lehigh, Princeton, Auburn, Delaware, and UNC Wilmington. After losses to Campbell, Elon, and William & Mary, the Hawks beat Drexel, Delaware, and Hampton. Since then it’s been a 2-2 run with losses to Towson (twice) among wins over Stony Brook and Hofstra. In total that gives Monmouth a 10-18 overall run this year.

Matched up against Hofstra in their road rematch on Thursday, the Hawks entered the second half with a 36-27 deficit. Monmouth woke up in the second half though, notching a 41-26 run on the way to a 68-62 comeback victory. Leading the charge was Madison Durr with 19 points, four rebounds, and four assists with one steal. Jack Collins added 14 points with six rebounds, two assists, and two steals, while Abdi Bashir chipped in nine points with two rebounds. Both Jaret Valencia and Andrew Ball chipped in seven points apiece off the bench as well.

Why the Northeastern Huskies will win

  • The road team has won three of Monmouth’s last four games.
  • The road team has won the first half in four of Northeastern’s last five games.

Monmouth vs Northeastern Prediction

I’ll try Monmouth in this one, but you could call it either way. The Hawks are coming off a shaky game on the road versus Hofstra in their most recent outing, but they still got the win. Monmouth shot just 39.1 percent from the field in that one but they were competitive on the boards 34-34 and had 13 points off 13 Pride turnovers. The Hawks have been at 68 points or more in each win during this current 5-2 run, so it’ll be important to get off to a better start on Monday.

As for Northeastern, they had a rough game themselves versus Charleston. The Huskies shot just 39.3 percent from the field (while giving up 51.6 percent on the other side) with a 38-35 rebounding deficit and 12 turnovers. The Huskies are on a 3-2 run themselves with 67 or more points in four of those games. We could have a decent total here if both teams are on point offensively.
