The Rider Broncs and the Monmouth Hawks meet Friday in college basketball action from Multipurpose Activity Center. Rider is 10-14 so far this year. The Broncs lost to Siena in OT during their last game. As for Monmouth, they’re 16-9 and coming off a loss to Iona. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Rider started the year at 3-8 and was only able to play one game from December 5 to January 9. After a choppy run to start out the calendar year, the Broncs took a four-game win streak into February. That run was snapped with an OT loss to Siena.

On Sunday in the Siena game, the Broncs were able to force overtime with a 34-32 second-half run. Rider couldn’t hang on in the extra period and lost 76-75. Tops in scoring was Mervin James with 15 points and five rebounds.

Over on the Monmouth side, their year began at 10-3 before a pause from December 22 through January 14. The Hawks have gone 1-2 in their last three games, beating Manhattan with losses otherwise to Marist and Iona.

In the Iona matchup on Sunday, the Hawks were outscored 30-42 by halftime. Monmouth got better in the second but still lost 70-62. Leading the scoring was Jarvis Vaughan with 11 points and four rebounds off the bench in 17 minutes.

The Hawks are 0-4 ATS in their last four at home and 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 after an ATS win. Monmouth is 2-5 ATS in the last seven Friday games.

Meanwhile, the Broncs are 5-0-1 ATS in their last six road games and 4-1 ATS in their last five overall.

PICK: I’m going to stick with Rider here. The Broncs had a sketchy run through January but they’ve been much better over the last five games. Rider is 4-1 in that stretch and they’ve hit 70 or more points in four of the five outings. As for Monmouth, they’ve scored 62 points or fewer in three of their last five games but they’re still a decent 3-2 in that stretch. This should be an interesting matchup, but if Rider gets off to a good start I can see them pulling off a cover.
