The Sacramento State Hornets and the Montana State Bobcats meet Tuesday in Big Sky Tournament college basketball action from CenturyLink Arena. Let’s get into our Sacramento State vs. Montana State prediction. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Sacramento State Hornets
The Hornets stumbled out of the gate with a rough 6-11 record overall. Sacramento State should then hit a losing streak from January 18 through February 22 to fall to 6-22. Since then it’s been a 4-1 record however, with wins over Montana State, Portland State, Idaho and Eastern Washington.
In the Sunday tournament matchup versus Eastern Washington, the Hornets went into the locker room with a 35-32 edge. Sacramento State closed out on a 39-37 run and eventually took the upset victory 74-69. Zee Hamoda was the leading team scorer on 19 points with four rebounds.

Montana State Bobcats
Over on the Montana State side, they were sitting at .500 as February began. The Bobcats would lose four straight to Idaho, Northern Colorado, Northern Arizona and Montana after that. It’s been a 4-2 run in the last six though, with wins over Portland State, Idaho and Weber State in that time.
In their Monday game versus Weber State, Montana State was in major trouble at the break with a 34-25 deficit. The Bobcats stormed back on a 66-48 second half for a 91-82 victory, though. Robert Ford posted 27 points with six rebounds and four assists to lead the way.
ANDREW’S FREE SACRAMENTO STATE VS MONTANA STATE PREDICTION
I’ll probably take a stab on Sacramento State. This one seems like a coin flip, though. The Hornets are playing well right now and coming off a really nice win over Eastern Washington. Sacramento State didn’t shoot all that well in that one (40 percent) and had 13 turnovers but did turn in a solid defensive performance. The Hornets have scored 72 or more points in four straight games now.
In the last meeting between these teams on February 24, Sacramento State took a hard-fought 66-63 win. The Hornets shot just 38.9 percent from the field with 13 turnovers, but also had a distinct 37-27 rebounding advantage (11-3 offensive). This rematch could go a lot of different ways and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Montana State play well either. Should be a fun matchup.
