Eastern Washington has hovered around .500 for most of the year, but they’ve been improving gradually record-wise since late December. In the last three the Eagles are 1-2 with losses to Northern Colorado and Montana State.
In the Montana State matchup on Thursday, Eastern Washington was outscored 26-25 in the first half and 43-40 from there in a 69-65 loss. Leading the team in scoring was Linton Acliese with 22 points, 10 rebounds and a steal.
Over on the Montana side, they got off to an 11-6 start this year. The losses were to Mississippi State, North Dakota, Oregon, Northern Colorado, Santa Clara and Montana State. Since then it’s been wins over Portland State, Northern Arizona and Idaho.
In the Idaho game, the Grizzlies posted 35 points in the first half and another 46 from there in an 81-62 win. Josh Bannan led the charge with 18 points and nine rebounds. Cameron Parker chipped in 15 points and four assists as well.
The Grizzlies are 3-12 ATS in their last 15 after an ATS win and 6-1 ATS in their last seven at home. Montana is 3-13 ATS in their last 16 Saturday games.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are 34-16-1 ATS in their last 51 road games and 37-17 ATS in their last 54 overall. Eastern WA is 20-6-1 ATS in their last 27 Saturday games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Montana here. The Grizzlies have had their scoring issues lately with 66 points or fewer in three of their last four games, but they’re still getting the wins. The last time these teams met up back on January 6, Montana hit a 90-78 victory. The Grizzlies shot 49.1 percent from the field in that one with a 10-point advantage in the second half. I like this one to be close most of the way as well, but I think the Grizzlies can keep it going.
