The Austin Peay Governors and the Morehead State Eagles meet Saturday in college basketball action from Ellis Johnson Arena.
Austin Peay enters this one at 11-6 so far. The Governors have won three straight, most recently over Eastern Kentucky. As for Morehead State, they’re 14-6 this year. Austin Peay began their year at 6-3 with losses to Abilene Christian, Murray State and Florida A&M. After a 2-1 stretch, the Governors lost to Jacksonville State and Belmont before beating Tennessee State, SIU Edwardsville and Eastern Kentucky in their last trio.
In the 94-79 win over Eastern Kentucky on Thursday, Austin Peay’s Terry Taylor doubled up on 30 points with 14 rebounds and four assists. Jordyn Adams added 14 points and eight assists, and both Mike Peake and Carlos Paez put up 12 points apiece.
Over on the Morehead State side, they started out at a sketchy 4-6 before hitting their stride. The Eagles have beaten Murray State, Tennessee Tech, Jacksonville State, Eastern Illinois, SEMO (twice), UT-Martin, Jacksonville State, Tennessee Tech and Murray State over their last 10 games.
In Thursday’s 66-56 win over the Racers, Morehead State’s Johni Broome posted 16 points with 10 rebounds and one assist. De’Von Cooper, Skyelar Potter and KJ Hunt each notched 12 points, combining for eight assists and 15 rebounds as well.
The Eagles are 4-0 ATS in their last four home games and 6-0-1 ATS in their last seven Saturday games. Morehead State is 13-3 ATS in their last 16 after a straight-up win and the under is 7-1 in the last eight home games.
Meanwhile, the Governors are 2-7 ATS in their last nine Saturday games and 4-0 ATS in their last four overall. Austin Peay is 15-6-1 ATS in their last 22 after an ATS win and the under is 26-9 in their last 35 road games.
PICK: I like Austin Peay here. This should be a pretty darn good matchup though, and you could probably make a case either way. The Governors have hits some solid points totals in their last eight games, notching 70 or more in each of them. The Eagles have hit 74 or more in each of their last five, so this one could end up as a big total. I think Austin Peay has the gas to bang out a cover, though.
