Morgan State vs South Carolina State 1/9/23 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

South Carolina State lost their first seven games before finally getting a win over East Carolina. Since then the Bulldogs have been on a 2-7 run. The wins in that stretch have been against Samford and St. Andrews. 

On Saturday versus Coppin State, the Bulldogs took a 36-33 deficit into the break. South Carolina State was outscored 49-40 from there and lost 85-73. Lesown Hallums led the team on 17 points with four rebounds. 

Over on the Morgan State side, they were 4-6 over their first 10 games this year, beating Penn State Greater Allegheny, Utah Valley, VA Lynchburg and PSU Wilkes-Barre. The Bears are 3-2 in their last five with wins over Hartford, Goucher and NC Central. 

Matched up against NC Central on Saturday, the Bears came back from a 32-30 deficit with 13 points in overtime on the way to a 78-73 victory. Tops in scoring was Isaiah Burke with 28 points and five rebounds in 42 minutes of work. 

PICK: I’m going to stay with Morgan State. The Bears put up a nice overtime comeback effort versus a comparable NC Central team in their last game, and they’ve now won three straight outings. Morgan State can score pretty well given the right matchup; they’ve hit 68 or more points in seven of their last nine outings. As for SC State, they’ve hit 71 or more in four straight games so this one could be a pretty high-scoring affair. Ultimately I like the Bears better on a potential cover, though.
