The Fairfield Stags and the Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers meet Thursday in college basketball action from Knott Arena. Fairfield is 9-10 on the year so far. The Stags beat Siena in their last game. As for Mount St. Mary’s, they’re 7-13 and coming off a win over Marist on Sunday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Fairfield Stags

Fairfield went 6-9 to start out the year, beating Towson, Evansville, Saint Peter’s, Sacred Heart, Coast Guard and Marist in that stretch. The Stags are 1-3 in their last four with wins over Saint Peter’s, Canisius and Siena.

In the Siena game on Sunday, the Stags were down 20-15 at halftime. Fairfield surged back on a 47-32 second-half run and won it 62-52, however. Fairfield’s Supreme Cook led the way on 12 points and six rebounds.

Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers

Over on the Mount St. Mary’s side, they went 5-9 through their first 14 with wins over McDaniel, Cal Poly, Pacific, Saint Peter’s and Loyola MD. Since then the Mountaineers are 2-4 with victories versus Canisius and Marist.

Matched up against Marist on Sunday, the Mountaineers were up 26-22 going into the second half. Mount St. Mary’s kept the pace from there and won 59-55. Jalen Benjamin put up 15 points and two rebounds to lead the team.

I’m going to stick with Fairfield in this one. We should have a fairly well-balanced matchup here, though. The Stags have won three straight, though they haven’t cracked 67 points in any of those outings. Fairfield shouldn’t have to score a ton in order to cover here, however; Mount St. Mary’s hasn’t hit 60 points during this current 1-4 stretch. If Fairfield plays well I think they’ll cover/win but it's a coin flip.
