Lehigh started the year out on a 1-10 skid with only a win over Columbia to show for it. The Hawks have hit a 5-2 run since then, however. The only losses in those seven games came to Army and Loyola MD.
In the Loyola MD matchup on Sunday, the Mountain Hawks had a 33-23 lead at the break. Lehigh was outscored 46-24 from there in a 69-57 loss, however. Leading scorer Evan Taylor put up 20 points with nine rebounds.
Over on the Midshipmen’s side, their year opened with a 7-4 stretch. Navy lost to Virginia Tech, Louisville, George Mason and Towson during that run. It’s been a 5-1 record since then with wins over Holy Cross, Boston U, Bucknell, Lafayette and Boston U again.
In the second Boston U game, the Midshipmen trailed by two points at halftime. Navy stormed back with a 42-33 second half in a 72-65 win. Patrick Dorsey topped the team on 12 points and four rebounds.
The Midshipmen are 37-18 ATS in their last 55 overall and 17-7 ATS in their last 24 after a straight-up win. The under is 5-2 in Navy’s last seven overall.
Meanwhile, the Mountain Hawks are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven overall. The under is 5-2 in Lehigh’s last seven road games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Navy here. The Midshipmen started slow in their last game versus Boston U, but to their credit the second-half adjustments were great. Navy has scored well during this 5-1 stretch, with 69 or more points in each win.
As for Lehigh, they’ve played well over their five-game win streak as well. The Hawks should make for a great opponent here, and I like this one to be competitive. Ultimately I think the Midshipmen will stick out the cover, though.
