The Pittsburgh Panthers and the NC State Wolfpack meet Wednesday in ACC Tournament college basketball action from Spectrum Center in Charlotte. Here’s an NC State vs Pittsburgh prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best NC State vs Pittsburgh pick.
Pittsburgh Panthers Betting Preview
The Panthers have had a pretty wild year so far. Pittsburgh limped to an 8-9 start through their first 17 games then took three more losses before taking out Wake Forest in OT. Losses to Clemson, Virginia, SMU, Duke and North Carolina came next, then a nice 4-2 stretch. The wins in that time have been over Notre Dame, California, Syracuse and Stanford, giving Pitt a 13-19 overall run.
On Tuesday versus Stanford, Pittsburgh retired to the locker room at halftime with a 31-23 edge. The Panthers were outscored 40-33 the rest of the way, but still managed to hang on for a razor-thin win 64-63 in the end. Tops in scoring was Barry Dunning with 16 points and eight boards. Roman Siulepa added 14 points with seven rebounds and one assist in the victory effort for the Panthers.
NC State Wolfpack Betting Preview
Over on the NC State side, they were 12-6 over their first 18 games this year and coming off a loss to Georgia Tech. After that came wins over Clemson, Pitt, Syracuse, Wake Forest, SMU and Virginia Tech. Since then it’s been a 1-6 run with losses to Louisville, Miami, Virginia, Notre Dame, Duke and Stanford in that time. That gives the Wolfpack a 19-12 overall record in the books this year.
In the Stanford game last weekend the Wolfpack were down by three points 37-34 going into the second half. NC State got better from there on a 50-48 advantage but it wasn’t enough in a tough loss on their home court 85-84. Van-Allen Lubin led the team on 17 points with 11 rebounds while Quadir Copeland added 16 points with five rebounds and two assists.
NC State vs Pittsburgh Prediction
I’ll take a stab on Pitt here. The Panthers shot a fairly meager 42.4 percent from the field in their win over Stanford on Tuesday, allowing 48.1 percent shooting on the other side in the process. Pittsburgh went a rough 3-of-17 from 3-point range (17.6 percent) and 5-of-9 (55.6 percent) from the line. The good news is that the Panthers did the dirty work under the basket with a 37-27 rebounding edge and a 44-32 advantage on points in the paint. Pittsburgh is 4-2 in their last six games overall, scoring 71 or more points in four of those.
These teams last met up back on January 24, and Pittsburgh ended up taking an 81-72 home loss in that one. The Panthers managed to shoot just 36.8 percent from the field with 13 turnovers but did have a stout 46-29 advantage on the boards. Pittsburgh really needs to get that shooting percentage up in this tournament rematch.
