The Purdue Boilermakers and the NC State Wolfpack meet Thursday in college basketball action from LionTree Arena. Here’s an NC State vs Purdue prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best NC State vs Purdue pick.
Purdue Boilermakers Betting Preview
The Boilermakers got off to a nice start this year with four straight wins over Texas A&M-CC, Northern Kentucky, Yale, and Alabama. Purdue lost their first game of the year 92-84 versus Marquette but came back with a win over Marshall on Saturday.
In the matchup with the Thundering Herd, Purdue was up 39-24 by the break. The Boilermakers continued to roll on a 41-21 finish and took the win 80-45. Trey Kaufman-Renn led the team with 18 points and three rebounds along the way.
NC State Wolfpack Betting Preview
Over on the NC State side, they’ve played five games without a blemish so far. The Wolfpack took out USC Upstate, Presbyterian, and Coastal Carolina in their first trio. The next pair were wins over Colgate and William & Mary.
Back on Friday versus William & Mary, the Wolfpack held a commanding 43-24 edge by halftime. NC State hit a 41-37 stretch the rest of the way and won 84-61 in the end. Marcus Hill led the team with 19 points and four rebounds.
Why the NC State Wolfpack will win
- NC State has won 14 of its last 15 games.
- NC State has won the first half in each of its last eight Thursday games against non-conference opponents.
Why the Purdue Boilermakers will win
- Purdue has won each of its last 19 day games against non-conference opponents.
- NC State has lost each of its last eight day games against Top 10 AP-ranked opponents.
- Purdue has won the first half in each of its last six games against non-AP-ranked opponents.
NC State vs Purdue Prediction
I’ll stay with Purdue. The Boilermakers have been pretty dominant in their wins so far, including the 35-point margin versus Marshall in their last outing. Purdue shot a nice 50 percent from the field in that one with 26 made free throws, 34 rebounds, and 18 team assists. Pretty much everybody saw some floor time in that one, and it was a nice return to form after the blowout loss to Marquette.
As for NC State, they out-rebounded William & Mary 40-38 and had 13 steals off 21 Tribe turnovers in their latest win. The Wolfpack have scored quite well this year so far with 72 or more points in every game and 81 or more points in four of five. That said, this will be NC State’s toughest matchup so far, and I don’t think they’ve got the gas to keep pace with Purdue here.
