The South Dakota Coyotes and the Omaha Mavericks meet Thursday in college basketball action from Baxter Arena. South Dakota is 13-10 on the year and coming off a loss to North Dakota State. South Dakota managed a 7-7 run over their first 14 games this year, then hit a five-game win streak in January. Since then it’s been a 1-3 stretch for the Coyotes. They’ve fallen to South Dakota State and North Dakota State (twice) in that time.
In Monday’s rematch versus North Dakota State, South Dakota was down 29-32 by halftime. The Coyotes made a run in the second half but fell short in a 76-74 loss. Tops in scoring was Tasos Kamateros with 21 points and four boards.
Over on the Mavericks’ side, they’ve had a rough go of things this year. Omaha has yet to win consecutive games so far. Since their last win over Kansas City, the Mavericks have fallen to North Dakota State and North Dakota.
Matched up against North Dakota on Saturday, the Mavericks were outscored 31-44 by halftime. Omaha made a run with 54 second-half points but couldn’t catch up in a 92-85 defeat. Frankie Fidler led the way on 35 points and five rebounds.
The Mavericks are 6-0 ATS in their last six at home and 7-3 ATS in the last 10 overall. Omaha is 5-0 ATS in their last five Thursday games.
Meanwhile, the Coyotes are 4-0 ATS in their last four road games and 7-2 ATS in their last nine overall. South Dakota is 1-4 ATS in their last five on Thursday.
PICK: I’m going to stay with South Dakota. The last time these teams met up back on January 15, the Coyotes rolled to a 105-70 home victory. South Dakota has been spotty since then but they’re still scoring pretty well overall.
Considering Omaha has given up 71 or more points in six of their last seven games, I don’t think South Dakota’s offense will have too many issues in this rematch.
