The Iowa Hawkeyes and the Nebraska Cornhuskers meet Thursday in college basketball action from Pinnacle Bank Arena. Iowa sits at 8-4 overall this year following a loss to Eastern Illinois in their last game. As for Nebraska, they’re currently 7-6. The Cornhuskers beat Queens NC in their most recent outing. Iowa managed to win five straight games to open up the year, then lost to TCU in game six. The Hawkeyes are 3-3 since then, taking losses to Duke, Wisconsin and Eastern Illinois with wins otherwise over Georgia Tech, Iowa State and SEMO.

In the Eastern Illinois game last Wednesday, the Hawkeyes were up 45-37 by the break. Iowa was outscored 55-38 from there and ended up losing 92-83. Filip Rebraca scored 24 points and Patrick McCaffery doubled on 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Over on the Nebraska side, they went 3-3 over their first six outings, taking losses to St. John’s, Oklahoma and Memphis. Since then it’s been a 4-3 run with wins over Florida State, Boston College, Creighton and Queens NC.

Matched up against Queens NC last Tuesday, the Cornhuskers took a 43-26 advantage into the break. Nebraska was outscored 39-32 from there but still won 75-65. Sam Griesel led the team on 16 points with three boards.

PICK: I’ll probably stay with Iowa. You could probably make a case either way here, though. The Hawkeyes didn’t play especially well versus Eastern Illinois in their last game, shooting just 38.9 percent from the field and getting out-rebounded 42-38. That said, Iowa has normally played pretty well against comparable teams this year and they’ve hit 75 or more points in four straight games. As for Nebraska, they’ve been a mixed bag during this 1-3 run but they did stay with Purdue well in their December 10 loss. This one should be an interesting matchup but I’m probably staying away.
