Minnesota Golden Gophers
The Golden Gophers have had it rough this year. After a 7-14 start through 21 games, the Gophers finished off with losses to Maryland, Iowa, Penn State, Illinois, Maryland again, Nebraska and Wisconsin with a lone win over Rutgers mixed in.
Back on Sunday versus Wisconsin, the Gophers held a 36-29 halftime edge. Minnesota was outscored 42-31 in the second half however and fell 71-67. Dawson Garcia led the team on 19 points and Joshua Ola-Joseph added 10 points.
Nebraska Cornhuskers
Over on the Cornhuskers’ side, they hit an 11-13 start through 24 games. Nebraska has since gone a decent 5-2 over their last seven, taking wins over Wisconsin, Rutgers, Maryland, Minnesota and Iowa with losses otherwise to Michigan and Michigan State.
In their Sunday matchup, Nebraska took a 43-39 deficit into the locker room. The Cornhuskers rallied on a 42-34 second-half run and took the victory 81-77. Sam Griesel led the team with 15 points and six rebounds, while Jamarques Lawrence added 15 points.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll stay with Nebraska in this one. The Cornhuskers are on a pretty solid run these days, and the late-season rally brought the team above .500 for the year. Nebraska has hit 67 or more points in eight straight games as well. These teams have met twice already, with the Cornhuskers taking both victories. First was a close 81-79 affair on January 7 at Williams Arena, then a 78-67 win on February 25 at Pinnacle Bank Arena. I like the Gophers to hang around in the first half here, with Nebraska ultimately pulling away for the cover.
