Southern matched up against Louisville in their opener this year and ultimately fell 72-60. The Jaguars got a solid win over Tulane 73-70 in their second outing, but then lost in a blowout to Rice 81-63 back on Tuesday.
In the Friday game against South Dakota, Southern fell behind 37-26 at halftime. Despite 42 second-half points the Jaguars couldn’t make up the deficit and fell 71-68 in a tough one. Jayden Saddler led the team on his 19 points, four assists and two boards.
Over on the Nebraska side, they were stunned by a plucky Western Illinois team in their opener, falling 75-74. The Cornhuskers rebounded against Sam Houston with a 74-65 win, but then lost again to Creighton in game three 77-69.
Nebraska faced off against Idaho State on Friday. The Cornhuskers posted 41 points in the first half and cruised to a solid 78-60 victory. Derrick Walker was the team’s high scorer with his 14 points and three rebounds in 21 minutes of action.
Nebraska is 8-17 ATS in their last 25 at home and 6-19-1 ATS in their last 26 after an ATS win. The Cornhuskers are 1-3-1 ATS in their last five overall.
Meanwhile, the Jags are 13-4-1 ATS in their last 18 after an ATS win and the over is 5-1 in their last six road games. The over is 5-1 in Southern’s last six overall.
PICK: I’m going to try Nebraska. The Cornhuskers haven’t exactly been a reliable team so far this year, though. That said, Nebraska put up a pretty good effort against Idaho State on Friday, shooting 54.4 percent from the floor with just eight turnovers.
As for Southern, they nearly caught back up to South Dakota in their last game but overall have lagged in their last pair. Nebraska needs to get it going early here, and if they do I think they’ll be fine on a cover.
