The Washington Huskies and the Nebraska Cornhuskers meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln. Here’s a Nebraska vs Washington prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Nebraska vs Washington pick.
Washington Huskies Betting Preview
This year the Huskies opened up with a 5-1 run over their first six games, but then went 4-3 over the next seven. The losses in that time came courtesy of Colorado, UCLA and Seattle U. Since then it’s been a 3-4 stretch featuring losses to Indiana, Purdue, Michigan and Michigan State along the way. Over the first 18 games of the season, that gives the Huskies a 10-8 record in the books.
In the Michigan State matchup on Saturday the Huskies were down by eight points at the break 39-31. Washington didn’t end up getting any closer than that, getting outscored the rest of the way 41-32 in an eventual home loss 80-63. Zoom Diallo was the leading team scorer on 18 points with five assists and three rebounds in 30 minutes. Hannes Steinbach added 17 points with nine rebounds and one assist in 38 minutes during the loss as well.
Nebraska Cornhuskers Betting Preview
Over on the Nebraska side, they’ve had a perfect run so far. In the first 18 games the Cornhuskers have dispatched West Georgia, FIU, MD Eastern Shore, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Kansas State, Winthrop, USC Upstate, Creighton, Wisconsin, Illinois, North Dakota, New Hampshire, Michigan State, Ohio State, Indiana, Oregon and Northwestern in succession for an 18-0 start.
Back on Saturday versus Northwestern, the Cornhuskers didn’t have too many issues. After a 34-29 advantage in the first half, Nebraska closed on a 43-29 run. That would give the team a nice road win 77-58 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Pryce Sandfort with 22 points and two rebounds. Braden Frager added 20 points with four rebounds and Sam Hoiberg put up 12 points with seven rebounds and four assists in the winning effort for the Cornhuskers.
Why the Nebraska Cornhuskers will win
- Nebraska has won each of its last 22 games.
- Washington has lost each of its last eight night games against Conference opponents.
- Washington has lost the first half in each of its last 11 games against Conference opponents.
Why the Washington Huskies will win
- The road team has won three of Nebraska’s last four games.
- The road team has won the first half in each of Washington’s last three games.
Nebraska vs Washington Prediction
I’ll probably still lean toward Nebraska here. The Cornhuskers are looking great right now and coming off yet another road win over a pretty average Northwestern team. Nebraska shot a nice 50.9 percent from the field and 80 percent (12-of-15) from the line in that one with just five turnovers. The Cornhuskers did get out-rebounded 28-26 but there was a bit of garbage time at the end of the game. That effort gives Nebraska 71 or more points in all but two games this year. They’ve got some tough matchups looming however, including a road game versus Michigan and home outings versus Illinois and Purdue.
As for Washington, they shot pretty well from the field (47.2 percent) in their home loss to a great Michigan State squad but also got out-rebounded 33-26 and had 12 turnovers along the way. The Huskies are just 1-4 in their last five games, but to be fair three of those came versus ranked teams. Washington has another tough, tough matchup on the road here.
