The San Diego State Aztecs and the Nevada Wolf Pack meet Saturday in college basketball action from Lawlor Events Center. San Diego State is coming off a Thursday matchup versus Fresno State. In that one, the Aztecs eked out a one-point win. As for Nevada, they’re sitting at 12-16 overall this year and lost to Boise State in their last outing. San Diego State has had a couple of spotty stretches this season but they’ve managed to avoid losing consecutive games. The Aztecs took a February 22 loss to Boise State, but rebounded with wins over San Jose State and Wyoming in the next pair.
On Thursday versus Fresno State, the Aztecs were outscored 27-30 in the second half and needed two overtime periods to get a 65-64 victory. Matt Bradley led the team on his 26 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Over on the Nevada side, they were 9-7 back in late January before a six-game losing streak put them back below the .500 mark. After three wins over Utah State and San Jose State (twice), the Wolf Pack lost to UNLV, Wyoming and Boise State in succession.
Matched up against Boise State on Tuesday, the Wolf Pack took a six-point deficit into halftime. Nevada kept the pace from there but still lost 73-67. Kenan Blackshear was the top scorer on 16 points with three rebounds.
The Wolf Pack are 0-5 ATS in their last five Saturday games and 0-4 ATS in their last four at home. Nevada is 5-14 ATS in their last 19 overall.
Meanwhile, the Aztecs are 22-8 ATS in their last 30 road games and 5-1 ATS in their last six overall. The under is 4-1 in San Diego State’s last five Saturday games.
PICK: I’m going to stay with San Diego State here. The Aztecs have had a handful of relative dud scoring outings lately, but overall they’ve been a very competitive team. As for Nevada, they’ve left much to be desired lately with 67 or fewer points in each of the last three outings. The last time these two squads met up, San Diego State took a 61-44 road win back on February 19. The Aztecs should be in control again here and I like them better on the cover.
