Sam Houston State Bearkats
The Bearkats limped to a 6-8 start to the year, but then beat Dallas, LA Tech, Western Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, New Mexico State, UTEP and Western Kentucky again in the next eight. After losses to FIU and Jacksonville State, the Bearkats beat FIU and Liberty in the next pair.
In the Liberty game on Saturday, the Bearkats stormed out to a 50-27 edge by halftime. Sam Houston cruised on a 46-33 deficit from there and eventually pulled off the win 83-73. Leading team scorer Davon Barnes put up 16 points with five rebounds and one assist in 34 minutes during the victory.

New Mexico State Aggies
Over on the Aggies’ side, they started out the year on a pretty sketchy 9-10 run. Since January 20, New Mexico State has gone just 2-5 with losses to Sam Houston State, LA Tech, UTEP, Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky alongside wins over Liberty and Jacksonville State.
In the Western Kentucky matchup over the weekend, the Aggies took a 33-33 tie into the locker room. New Mexico State faltered on a 39-25 run from there however and lost 72-58 in the end. Tops in scoring were Jaden Harris and Femi Odukale, each with 13 points in the defeat.
ANDREW’S FREE SAM HOUSTON STATE VS NEW MEXICO STATE PREDICTION
I’ll stay with Sam Houston here. The Bearkats pulled off a pretty solid win over a decent Liberty team in their last outing, shooting a nice 54.9 percent from the field with 30 rebounds and 13 assists. Sam Houston has scored 68 or more points in four of the last five games, going 3-2 during that time.
These teams saw each other last back on January 25 in a 79-67 home win for the Bearkats. Sam Houston didn’t shoot very well in that one (41.7 percent) but held a 45-35 advantage on the boards (18-7 offensive) and scored 17 points off 12 Aggies turnovers. New Mexico State will likely sharpen up in this one, but I like Sam Houston to eke out a cover/win in the end all the same.
