Seattle Redhawks
Seattle went 12-4 over their first 16 games this year, losing to only Washington, Oregon State, Utah State and Iona. The Redhawks are 4-3 in their last seven outings, losing to Sam Houston, Stephen F. Austin and Abilene Christian in the latest trio.
In the Abilene Christian matchup on Wednesday, the Redhawks went into halftime with a 49-44 edge. Seattle imploded on a 39-19 deficit from there and lost 83-68. Alex Schumacher led the way on 16 points and four assists.
New Mexico State Aggies
Over on the New Mexico State side, they started out on a sketchy run this year at 7-9 through 16 games. The Aggies are just 1-5 since then with losses to Seattle, TX-Arlington, Southern Utah, Utah Tech and Utah Valley before a win over Stephen F. Austin.
In the Stephen F. Austin game, the Aggies were up 40-38 in the locker room. New Mexico state kept it up with a 33-29 second-half run and got the win 73-67. DaJuan Gordon led the team on 15 points with five assists.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll stay with New Mexico State in this one. The Aggies are coming off a much-needed win over a pretty good Stephen F. Austin team, and despite the 1-9 record in their last 10 games New Mexico State isn’t playing terribly. In four straight games the Aggies have hit 73 or more points and they’ve had some close losses during this rough stretch. The last time these teams met back on January 12 at Climate Pledge was one of those close losses: a 69-66 Seattle win. I like New Mexico State to get some revenge here on a cover/win.
