New Mexico vs Air Force Pick – Basketball Predictions & Odds 1/27/23

The Air Force Falcons and the New Mexico Lobos meet Friday in college basketball action from the Pit. Air Force stands at 12-9 on the year. The Falcons lost to San Jose State in their last game. Air Force Falcons

Air Force went 9-7 over their first 16 games, losing to Bowling Green, Texas A&M-Commerce, Portland, Portland State, San Diego State, Nevada and Utah State. The Falcons are 3-2 since then with losses to San Diego State and San Jose State. 

Matched up against San Jose State on Tuesday, the Falcons trailed 46-31 going into the second half. Air Force scored just 21 points from there and lost 82-52 in a blowout. Camden Vander Zwagg led the team with 11 points. 

New Mexico Lobos

Over on the New Mexico side, they went 14-2 over their first 16 games. The only losses came to Fresno State and UNLV in that stretch. The Lobos beat Oral Roberts, San Diego State, San Jose State and Boise State before another loss to Nevada. 

On Monday in the Nevada game, the Lobos came back from a 43-38 halftime deficit to force overtime. After two extra periods New Mexico ended up losing 97-94. Jamal Mashburn Jr. was the top team scorer on 33 points in 43 minutes.

I’ll probably stay with New Mexico here. The Lobos couldn’t quite topple a tricky Nevada team in their last outing despite shooting 54 percent from the floor with a 38-36 rebounding advantage. New Mexico coughed up 19 turnovers to the Wolf Pack’s nine, however. The Lobos will get their chance for a rematch on February 7, but for now they’ll have to contend with Air Force. The Falcons have scored 60 or fewer points in three of their last four games, so if they don’t get off to a good start New Mexico should have this one in the bag.
