New Mexico vs Prairie View A&M 12/20/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Prairie View A&M Panthers and the New Mexico Lobos meet Tuesday in college basketball action from the Pit. Prairie View sits at 4-7 on the year so far. The Panthers lost to Montana in their last game. As for New Mexico, they’re 11-0 on the season and fresh off a win over Iona. Prairie View started out the year on a 4-2 run with losses to TN-Martin and UTSA. The Panthers have since hit a five-game losing streak to Oklahoma State, Rice, Northwestern UIC and Montana during that time. 

On Saturday versus Montana, Prairie View trailed 43-34 by the break. The Panthers posted a 42-38 second-half advantage but still lost 81-76. Both Hegel Augustin and William Douglas scored a team-high 21 points apiece. 

Over on the New Mexico side, it’s been a flawless run so far. The wins have been courtesy of Southern Utah, South Alabama, SMU, Jacksonville State, ND State, Northern Colorado, Saint Mary’s, Western NM, UTSA, San Francisco and Iona. 

Matched up against Iona on Sunday, the Lobos took a 44-33 edge into the locker room. New Mexico scored another 38 points from there and won 82-74. Jaelen House was tops on 22 points, and KJ Jenkins added 17 points as well. 

PICK: I’ll probably stick with New Mexico in this one. The Lobos didn’t have a ton of trouble against a pretty good Iona team in their last outing. New Mexico has had a couple of close calls along the way (specifically Saint Mary’s and San Francisco lately) but there’s not much to complain about. As for Prairie View, they’ve given up 70 or more points in four of the five games during this current losing streak. I like the Lobos to take advantage of that and post a big total here.
