UT-Arlington Improves To 2-0

The UT-Arlington Mavericks come into this one looking to build on their 2-0 record after a 95-64 win over subdivision UT-Tyler last time out. DaJuan Gordon leads the Mavericks in scoring and rebounding, averaging a double-double per game with 19 PPG and 12.5 RPG while Kade Douglas has 18 PPG after his lone appearance of the year. Akili Vining has 10 PPG with 3 RPG to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for UT-Arlington so far this season. Makaih Williams has 9.5 PPG with a team-high 5.5 APG to lead UT-Arlington in the assist department while Shemar Wilson also has 8.5 PPG and 12 RPG as well. As a team, UT-Arlington is averaging 85 PPG on 41.7% shooting from the field, 37.7% from three and 73.7% from the foul line this season.

New Mexico Falls to Saint Mary’s

The New Mexico Lobos come into this game looking to bounce back from their 72-58 loss to Saint Mary’s last time out. Donovan Dent leads the Lobos in scoring with 13.5 PPG as well as in assists with 5.5 APG while Jamal Mashburn Jr. has 11 PPG as the only other double-digit scorer for New Mexico up to this point in the year. Nelly Junior Joseph has 9.5 PPG with a team-high 9 RPG to lead the Lobos on the glass while JT Toppin has 9.5 PPG with 7.5 RPG as well this season. As a team, New Mexico is averaging 75 PPG on 41.1% shooting from the field, 40% from three and 71.4% from the foul line this season.

I’m backing the Lobos at home here. The Pit has not been kind to opposing teams in past seasons and the Lobos have just been so good at home for so long now that even when they occasionally struggled, any home game was a get right spot. The Lobos lost to Saint Mary’s last time out, but a lot of teams will this season and I just don’t see UT-Arlington posing that much of a threat to New Mexico here. Give me the Lobos here.
