The UTSA Roadrunners and the New Mexico Lobos meet Saturday in college basketball action from the Pit. UTSA is 5-3 so far this year and fresh off a win over Incarnate Word. As for New Mexico, they’re currently 8-0 on the season. The Lobos beat Western New Mexico in their last game. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

UTSA got off to a nice start at 4-1 with wins over Trinity TX, St. Mary’s (TX), Prairie View and Texas State. the Roadrunners lost to Gambling State and Dartmouth before managing another win over Incarnate Word.

In the Incarnate Word game on Monday, UTSA held a 32-26 lead at the break. The Roadrunners were able to hang on from there and won 68-62. Jacob Germany led the team on a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Over on the New Mexico side, it’s been smooth sailing so far. The victories have come versus Southern Utah, South Alabama, SMU, Jacksonville State, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, Saint Mary’s and Western New Mexico.

Matched up against Western New Mexico on Tuesday, the Lobos didn’t have too many issues. New Mexico scored 49 points in the first half and 53 in the second for a 102-63 blowout win. Morris Udeze led the team on 18 points.

PICK: I’ll probably stay with New Mexico. The Lobos are looking pretty great so far this year, and they’ve really only had two or three competitive games. New Mexico is also scoring quite well; they’ve hit 69 or more points in every game so far and 76 or more in seven of eight. As for UTSA, they’ve been a mixed bag this year depending on the matchup. In general the Roadrunners have been competitive however, and they’ve got the ability to score well. That said, I don’t think UTSA will keep up if New Mexico is playing to their capabilities.
