Houston Christian Huskies

The Huskies managed a 2-11 run through their first 13 games this year, beating only Southwestern Adventist and Champion Christian. It’s been a 3-4 run in the last seven games for Houston Christian, featuring losses to Northwestern State, Incarnate Word, SE Louisiana and Nicholls State.

In the Nicholls State matchup on Saturday, the Huskies were down 46-36 going into the second half. Houston Christian kept the pace from there but ended up losing 83-73. Michael Imariagbe led the team on his 18 points and 11 rebounds in the losing effort.

New Orleans Privateers

Over on the Privateers’ side, they beat only Millsaps, Southern-New Orleans, Central AR, Belhaven, Birmingham-Southern, Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas A&M-CC in their first 16 games. New Orleans has since lost to Nicholls, Northwestern State, Houston Christian, McNeese, Lamar and Incarnate Word.

In the Incarnate Word matchup on Saturday, the Privateers took a two-point deficit into the break. New Orleans couldn’t make the comeback on a 44-44 second half and lost a tough one 82-80. Jordan Johnson was the team’s leading scorer on 23 points and five assists.

I’ll probably just stick with New Orleans. There’s not a lot to get excited about here, though. The Privateers were out-rebounded pretty badly 37-22 (10-4 offensive) in their latest loss versus Incarnate Word, but otherwise they didn’t play horribly. New Orleans has at least been scoring well over the last four games, with 73 or more points in each. The Privateers have given up 82 or more points in five straight though, including an 88-80 road loss to Houston Christian the last time these teams met up on January 22. The change in venue should help New Orleans, but I’m probably not touching this one.
