Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders
Texas A&M-CC lost to Mississippi State, CSUB, UTEP, UTRGV, Arizona and Oklahoma State in their first 16 games. The Islanders are 3-3 since then with losses to SE Louisiana, Lamar and Houston Christian.
In the McNeese State matchup back on Saturday, Texas A&M-CC was up 46-40 going into the second half. The Islanders hit a 37-32 run from there and won the game 83-72. Leading scorer Isaac Mushila posted 23 points with eight rebounds.
New Orleans Privateers
Over on the New Orleans side, they beat St. Francis IL, IUPUI, Dillard, Lamar, Houston Christian and Incarnate Word in their first 16 outings. The Privateers are sitting on a five-game losing streak right now, most recently falling to SE Louisiana.
Matched up against SE Louisiana on Saturday, the Privateers trailed 44-31 by halftime. New Orleans didn’t get any closer with a 36-33 second-half deficit and lost 80-64. Jordan Johnson topped the team with 26 points.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’m leaning toward the Islanders in this one. Texas A&M-CC is 3-2 in their last five games, scoring 78 or more points in four of those outings. The last time these teams met up back on January 14 at American Bank Center, the Islanders secured a 97-79 win thanks to a 49-33 advantage in the first half. This one might not come so easily given the road environment, but Texas A&M-CC should have the advantage cover-wise. New Orleans has managed 65 or fewer points in three of their last four and I don’t think they’ve got the gas to keep pace.
