The Army Black Knights and the NJIT Highlanders meet Friday in college basketball action from Wellness and Events Center. Army sits at 5-4 so far this year. The Knights beat Purchase in their last outing. As for NJIT, they’re 5-3 and coming off a win over Lafayette. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Army posted a 3-1 run over their first four games, taking out SUNY New Paltz, Hartford and Merrimack. It’s been a 2-3 stretch since then with losses to La Salle, Siena and Air Force mixed with wins over Marist and Purchase.
In the Tuesday game versus Purchase, Army posted a 42-24 edge in the first half and a 55-16 run in the second for a dominant 97-40 win. Leading scorer Aaron Duhart put up 12 points with six boards, and Jalen Rucker had 11 points and seven assists.
Over on the NJIT side, their first four games this year went 2-2 including wins over Lehigh and Fairleigh Dickinson. The Highlanders then lost to St. John’s before bagging wins over Sacred Heart, St. Elizabeth and Lafayette.
In the game versus Lafayette back on Sunday, the Highlanders fell behind 42-37 at the break and had to rally to force overtime. After two extra periods NJIT ended up with a 90-86 win. Dylan O’Hearn went nuts for 42 points and seven rebounds in 50 minutes of work.
The Highlanders are 4-0 ATS in their last four after an ATS win and 6-0 ATS in their last six overall. The over is 4-1 in NJIT’s last five after a straight-up win.
Meanwhile, the Knights are 13-6-1 ATS in their last 20 road games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five Friday games. The under is 4-1 in Army’s last five after a straight-up win.
PICK: I’m going to try NJIT in this one. The Highlanders posted a resilient win over Lafayette in their last outing thanks in large part to a couple of great individual efforts. NJIT has scored 75 or more points in each installment of this three-game win streak.
As for Army, they’re coming off a cupcake game that they had very little difficulty with. Prior to that the Knights had four straight games with 67 points or fewer, though. If both these teams get going I can see this becoming a higher-scoring game, and ultimately I like NJIT a little better on a potential cover.
