Delaware State hit a 2-2 run during their first four games this year. The Hornets haven’t been able to get a victory since then, however. Delaware State is riding a 23-game losing streak, falling most recently to MD-Eastern Shore.
Matched up against MD -Eastern Shore on Thursday, the Hornets were within one point at the break. Delaware State was outscored 35-38 the rest of the way in a 63-59 loss. Zach Kent led the team with his 16 points and three rebounds.
Over on the Norfolk State side, they had one 0-3 run back in December but otherwise they’ve remained a highly consistent team this year. The Spartans have won their last three straight over South Carolina State, North Carolina Central and Howard.
In the Howard game on Thursday, the Spartans got off to a 39-31 start. Norfolk State remained ahead 44-30 in the second half on the way to an 83-61 victory. Joe Bryant was the leading scorer with 27 points and six rebounds.
The Spartans are 5-2 ATS in their last seven Wednesday games and 21-9-1 ATS in their last 31 overall. Norfolk State is 8-1-1 ATS in their last 10 neutral-site games.
Meanwhile, the Hornets are 1-4 ATS in their last five Wednesday games and 4-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS win. Norfolk State is 6-1 ATS in their last seven overall.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Norfolk State. Probably not going near this one, though; it’s tough gauging how close Delaware State is going to get here. In any case, Norfolk State has hit 69 or more points in six of their last seven games so they’re scoring well these days. The Spartans won 80-51 in the first matchup between these teams this year and 69-66 in the road rematch. This one’s probably going to finish somewhere in between those two matchups, and I think Norfolk State still takes the cover.
